DR. PABLO TSUKAYAMA TO LA REPUBLICA: “NOT PROMOTING SCIENCE COULD COST US DEARLY.”
Through his ‘X’ (Twitter) account, Dr. Pablo Tsukayama has decided to report on the latest scientific advances around the globe every week.
Dr. Pablo Tsukayama, professor and coordinator of the Microbial Genomics Laboratory of our university, gave an interview to the newspaper La República, in which he explained what genomic sequencing is about, the importance that scientists have gained after the COVID-19 pandemic, among other topics.
“One feels that there is not much appreciation for scientists’ work. It happens in low- and middle-income countries. Other priorities are on the agenda and the budget, but they realize we are useful at some point. Not promoting science can cost you dearly in some circumstances. I hope the pandemic has showcased the importance of knowledge, although afterward, pessimism wins out, and we return to the same old situation,” he said.
