DR. MARÍA DEL PILAR MEDINA ALVA, CAYETANO HEREDIA’S PROFESSOR WHO CARES FOR NEWBORNS’ BRAINS
Andina interviewed Dr. María del Pilar Medina Alva, a professor at our university and neuropediatrician at the National Maternal-Perinatal Institute (INMPN). In the article, the state agency highlighted their work caring for the brains of newborns and premature infants.
“Neonatal neurology, my specialty, is relatively new, and the major discoveries made are no more than 15 years old. Studying it taught me that, just as the brain is a vital part of the body, the place where it grows, that is, the environment where newborns develop, is also fundamental. The brain of a child who receives care and attention is one thing, and the brain of a child who lacks protection is another”, she explained.
