CAYETANO HEREDIA DISTINGUISHES AS HONORARY PROFESSOR DR. MARCOS MILLA

Dr. Marcos Milla was the chief scientific officer of Synthorx from 2017 until its acquisition by Sanofi in January 2020.

On Thursday, August 10, at the Miraflores campus, Cayetano Heredia distinguished Dr. Marcos Milla, a graduate of our university, researcher and sponsor of the Milla-Goñi Postgraduate Scholarship, as honorary professor.

The recognition was presented by our Rector, Dr. Enrique Castañeda Saldaña, in a ceremony that was also attended by the academic Vice-rector, Dr. Yesenia Musayón Oblitas; the Director of the Graduate School Víctor Alzamora Castro, Dra. Fabiola León-Velarde; the Dean of the Faculties of Science and Engineering and of Veterinary Medicine and Zootechnics, Dra. Maria Rivera Chira; and the Vice-dDean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Dr. Wilfredo Gonzáles Lozada.

The event was also attended by Dr.  María Angélica Goñi, wife of Dr. Marcos Milla, and the Milla-Goñi scholarship winners, who gave a preview of the theses they are preparing for their master’s degree.

“I am very excited about this distinction, because it is granted by my alma mater. I would like to tell the kids to keep fighting for their dreams, that in science there is always a high probability of failure, but when you succeed you feel a great satisfaction,” said Dr. Marcos Milla.

About the Milla-Goñi Scholarship

Dr. Marcos Milla and Dra. María Angélica Goñi, alumni of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, decided to create a fund that will allow five students from the Scholarship System 18 to access postgraduate programs at the school each year. This fund was later renamed the Milla-Goñi Postgraduate Scholarship.

Five scholarships are awarded each year through a competition based on academic merit. These cover university tuition and a stipend so that the scholarship recipient can devote himself/herself full-time to his/her studies.
